How to register for a Chinese language HSK exam
After studying Chinese for some time, it’s a good idea to evaluate your Chinese level and get an HSK level certification. Nothing is more official and authoritative than HSK exams. Here’s how to register for the HSK exams online!

Step 1: Create an account to register for a HSK exam
There is only one site that allows registration for HSK exams: www.chinesetest.cn
No matter where you are in the world, you can find the test center you want and register on this website. The website is available in 7 languages, including English.
It requires an account, which can be created with your email address:
Step 2: Register your HSK exam
After creating your account, you can log in and choose “register now” on the welcoming page. This will lead you to the six levels of HSK tests. Select the one you plan to take.
Then you need to select the right information for the following: Continent, country/region, province, city, test format (paper-based or internet-based), test center, and date.
There are a few things you need to keep in mind while you are selecting:
- The information for province, city and test center will only be shown in the original languages. For example, if you choose to take the test in Shanghai or mainland China, you need to know the characters for Shanghai and the district and the test center.
- Both of the test formats aren’t available everywhere. Internet-based ones can be chosen only in a few places.
- Tests are not available at all times either. It’s most frequent in Mainland China, which is once a month.
- Not every test center is open all year around. Most centers in universities close during summer and winter vacations.

Step 3: Your personal information
The next step is to fill in your personal information, including your full name and passport number as well as a photo. Remember this photo is going to appear on your HSK certificate once you pass it, so choose a nice one!
Step 4: Paying for your HSK exam
The website accepts Union Pay, Visa, and Mastercard. The only tricky part is after you click “pay online”, the page that is returned is Chinese! Don’t panic, if you choose to pay with Visa or Mastercard, the new page is supposed to be in English; however, if you insist on choosing Union Pay, every bank is going to be listed in Chinese. As long as you can recognize your bank by its logo, it shouldn’t be a big problem.
